Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium fixture that acts as an artificial tooth root when placed in the mouth. Dental implants are the ideal solution to replace single or multiple missing teeth. They will support dental restorations, such as crowns, bridges and dentures, and they will look and function like natural teeth. They are designed to be a stable and effective long-term solution. Implants can be life changing, restoring your ability to talk, smile and eat your favourite foods with total confidence.

Placing an implant is often easier than taking a tooth out and is usually done using a simple local anaesthetic. You will not feel any pain at the time but, just like after an extraction, you may feel some discomfort during the week after the surgery. Your new teeth can even be fitted at the same time as the implants (these are called ‘immediate implants’). Usually they are fitted three to four months after the implants are placed, to allow the tissues to heal.

Dr Dhivesh Patel will be able to talk to you about your treatment time and answer any further questions you may have, so please contact the practice to book a consultation appointment.

Bridges

A bridge is a fixed option for replacing a space and works by being attached to the teeth or tooth next to the space. Sometimes, we have to prepare the tooth or teeth next to the gap. There are also bridges that do not require any preparation so you do not need any injections or drilling. We will go through the possible options with you.

Dentures

Dentures are removable teeth that can be used to replace one or more teeth. They are tailor made so that you will receive dentures that are comfortable, functional and look great. The materials that can be used are acrylic, chrome and flexible and it usually takes a few visits to construct so that we can achieve the best possible result.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

We at Eastleigh Dental Practice have taken the sad and difficult but correct decision; given the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic to temporarily close our dental practice until further notice.

Routine dentistry involves aerosol generating procedures, and this carries a significant risk in increasing the transmission of the coronavirus.

The best way for us to ensure the safety of the staff and you - our patients, your family, your friends and the rest of the community is to close the surgery for a while. This will help reduce social contact, slow down transmission, not inundate the healthcare system and most importantly reduce the number of fatalities.

We will be contacting all patients who have existing appointments on a month by month basis to cancel them and once we receive further notification from the government as to when we can open, we will arrange new appointments.

During this period of closure, if existing patients experience a dental emergency they can contact the principal dentist 9am to 5pm via email on infoeastleighdental@gmail.com leaving their name, a contact number and the nature of the emergency. According to new NHS guidance the outcome will be advice, painkillers, possible antibiotics or a referral via a Local Urgent Dental Care system only.

Outside of these hours if the emergency involves pain that cannot be controlled by painkillers, swelling, trauma you must contact 111, who will guide you through various options.

Stay safe and let's hope this will all be over soon!
